“A Way of Life: A Story of the Sioux City Stock Yards,” by Marcia Poole
The 240-page, richly illustrated book covers more than 140 years of history. It was funded by Missouri River Historical Development, Inc. (MRHD), published by the Sioux City Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center Association and produced entirely in Woodbury County.
Stanley Evans, retired President and Chairman of the Board of the Live Stock National Bank, was advisor to the project. George Lindblade and Christine McAvoy, of G.R. Lindblade, were photo editors. Lou Ann Lindblade designed the book. It was printed by Anderson Brothers Printing Company of Sioux City.
“More than anything, we want readers to appreciate the people and the geographic advantage that helped make Sioux City ‘Home Market for the Great Northwest,’” says Poole. “The Yards was a way of life that never can be duplicated.” 2006, 8x10, soft cover
